i have been a witness for a long time and still serve as an elder.
there have been a lot of changes to deal with in the last six months or so since i stumbled on this site due to questions i had about all the recent changes in understanding published in the wt.
many posters here talk about a cult personality and a real personality.
I'm with you dog man, I'm still in too, but my mind feels freer , every thought process has changed, the way I view the world and especially the people in it has changed too. I now feel a part of society and want to help it, as opposed to being part of a tiny mutual club and wanting to recruit new members .
It's been a long process for me, i guess some people just think quicker!

I understand the wt viewpoint, that anything mankind accomplishes is short term, only the kingdom can sort problems eternally, I bought into it for decades. But I can honestly say I got more joy, more happiness, more satisfaction, from reading the article at the top of the page than ANY amount of wt and awakes. The thing is, my freshly critical mind is saying 'don't believe the hype, figures and statistics can be manipulated to say what you want them to say, it's all propaganda one way or the other . I just don't believe what ANYONE tells me anymore... :-(

My good lady wife's response would be that yes, advances HAVE been made in technology and democracy, resulting in better health care and longevity but people's ATTITUDES and morals worldwide have declined, we're still not safe to walk the streets at night and we have to lock our doors now, compared to the attitudes and morals and respect for parents and authority in, say, the 50s.. Which I would agree with, but I don't agree with wt equating one example of somebody shooting up a school full of kids with "the whole world has never been a worse place to be in". Reporting with an extreme bias. (oh, and bu2b, great point about 1914 back then was supposed to be the END of the time of troubles... Our literature now, or at least fairly recently, heavily promotes pre-1914 era as a golden age that was destroyed by Satan being thrown downdown and promptly starting ww1. Completely different viewpoints!)
a lot of times, when people look at pictures taken by a point-and-shoot vs an slr, they know something is different, but just can't pinpoint exactly what it is.... it is the shallower depth of field.... see.

I love me a bit of bokeh.. My 50mm f/1.4 gives great bokeh, specially evening portraits with fairy lights in the background, you get great unfocused globules of coloured light in the background, it's magical!

The reason I looked for the article is because of a discussion with my wife. I don't know about your relationship but I don't feel right coming back later with an article to prove my point. Seems very brinkmanshiplike. If that's a word. It probably isn't. I don't think it'd go down well..

i was just watching the video of bo jensen, when he walked into the bethel.
although i thought it was commendable for what he did, it got me thinking if apostates are becoming more brazen in taking wt to task.
in the short time that i have been visiting apostate sites, i do feel that this is the case.
Hopefully. Although it could be that we're just more aware of it in this information age, it's easier to see individual's efforts like undermining witnessing trolleys and recording JC's on youtube and the like.. I hope apostasy becomes a massive massive problem cos then the society will have to either double down and cause serious disenfranchisement and show themselves as controlling lunatics, or relent and encourage free discussion. The latter ain't gonna happen btw.
